Expert Support for Large Radon Testing Projects
AccuStar will work with radon testing professionals to provide bulk quantities of test devices and specialized reporting for large projects on request. Some of these large projects might include:
Radon Measurement for Schools
The U.S. EPA, as part of its Technical Solutions to Common Indoor Air Quality Issues in Schools, includes a section on Source Control and Chemical Management. In the introduction to this section, EPA states: “One of the most effective ways to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) is to eliminate individual sources of pollution…” and makes these recommendations regarding radon:
- Test all school buildings for radon and mitigate if necessary.
- Track radon test results, assessment data and pending actions so that facility maintenance can plan accordingly.
- Retest according to plan if schools were mitigated to ensure radon mitigation systems are functioning properly.
- Schedule re-testing following all major renovations and consider how HVAC modifications or upgrades may affect radon intrusion.
Testing for radon in schools requires specific processes and procedures as stated in the ANSI/AARST Standard Protocols for Measuring Radon and Radon Decay Products in Schools and Large Buildings (MALB 2014). Knowledgeable members of our staff will work with you to choose the appropriate testing devices and to help you through the testing and reporting process. Through our Spruce Radon Training division, you can take an advanced course to learn the Standard and protocols required.
Radon Measurement for Multifamily Buildings
As with schools, there is a National Radon Standard to be followed when testing multifamily buildings. More and more agencies and lenders are requiring radon testing. For example, HUD requires that multifamily homes and most FHA-insured construction located in moderate to high risk radon zones be tested for radon and mitigated if needed. Our experts can advise you on project design, device use, and reporting. Our training division, Spruce Radon Training, offers an advanced course that will help you to learn the procedures required by the ANSI/AARST Protocol for Conducting Radon and Radon Decay Product Measurements in Multifamily Buildings (MAMF-2017).
